key-to-disk system
System that enables large amounts of data to be entered at a keyboard and transferred directly onto computer-readable disks or tapes.
Such systems are used in batch processing, in which batches of data, prepared in advance, are processed by computer with little or no intervention from the user. The preparation of the data may be controlled by a minicomputer, freeing a larger, mainframe computer for the task of processing.
