search request
Structured request by a user for information from a database. This may be a simple request for all the entries that have a single field meeting a certain condition. For example, a user searching a file of car-registration details might request a list of all the records that have ‘VOLKSWAGEN’ in the field recording the make of car. In more complex examples, the user may construct a search request using operators like AND, OR, NOT, CONTAINING, and BETWEEN.
An example of a search request using all these operators is:
CAR SEARCH: registration number containing XTW and make Volkswagen and model Polo and body hatchback and colour white or black and registered between 1989 and 1991.
This search request would produce a list of all the white or black Volkswagen Polo hatchbacks registered between 1990 and 1996 that contained the letters XTW in their registration number.
