cascading style sheets
Feature of HTML that enables Web programmers to define a style that can be applied to any number of pages. More than one style sheet can be applied to a page. For example, a Webmaster can define an overall style for a Web site, then use different style sheets for different sections, and add further sheets for pages lower down the hierarchy: hence cascading. CSS has been developed under the auspices of the W3C.

The standard definition of CSS has been available for several years. However, the companies that design Web browsers do not always implement the design properly, or in its entirety. This causes problems for Web page designers because their pages may appear differently from one browser to another.
