Ross, Douglas Taylor
US computer software executive who created the language APT (Automatically Programmed Tools), used in numerically controlled manufacturing. He taught the first course in software engineering in 1968 and worked on computer graphics, and computer-aided design (CAD). He founded SofTech, one of the earliest software consulting companies, in 1969.
He was born in Canton, China, of US parents. He was head of the Computer Applications Group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 1952–69.
